In 1896, the Klondike Gold Rush put Yukon on the map, drawing in people to the territory from all across the world. To reignite interest in Yukon’s history, we crowdsourced a brand new, modern-day Gold Rush. Through Indiegogo, people gave us their hard-earned cash, which we used to purchase real Klondike gold and actually threw it into the Yukon River. We didn’t hit the $100,000 goal (which was never our realistic expectation), but we did get thousands of dollars worth, plus 52 million earned media impressions that helped put Yukon back on the map.
